We made it

We left saturday morning after a tearful goodbye with the girls. My mom drove us to the airport and she said when she got back to our house, Bree came running into the garage looking for us. When mom told her we were bye bye, she went inside and went to her room and read books, then she went to the computer to look at pictures of us on there. It hard enough to leave the girls, and then Adrie woke up with a fever and feeling sick.

We had 3 flights, for a total of 20 hours of traveling. We flew to Atlanta and then to Paris and then to K.
I am NOT a fan of flying and was so grateful I was blessed with an incredible peace through the whole travel time. Another reassurance that we are doing the right thing. It was overwhelming to feel the emotion of what we are embarking on and the fact that it is really happening! I can't thank everyone enough for their comments and prayers and love and support! We REALLY feel it even when we are around the world! I LOVE reading comments and emails from all of you! The internet is our best friend right now!
We flew into Paris at sunrise but unfortunately we were in the middle of the plane so we couldn't get pictures or see much of the city.
We couldn't get over how quiet it was at the Paris airport....it was almost eery!

We landed in K at what felt like the middle of the night to us, but was the middle of the day, and after having not slept on the flights, we were really messed up on the time.

Customs was no big deal! It really didn't feel like anything other than a regular security line. All we had to do was show our passports.

Unfortunately the first place we got to visit in K was the Lost and found at the airport! My bag was left in Atlanta apparantly so Kris had to try and find someone to speak english and help us. They say it will be delivered tomorrow afternoon....we are praying that is true!
Our driver Nico was waiting for us and I think he was starting to worry because we were held up so long with the baggage department. After he met us he walked us to exchange our money and then we headed to the apartment.

The Dnipro River

The views from our apartment window. It is SO quiet around here.
Where our laundry will be hung on the balcony
This is the lock on our door inside our apartment....we need this lock for Bree at home!
The entrance into the apartment building is a little crazy. The buildings around here are incredibly old and as we walked inside we felt more like we were at the Disneyland ride for tower of terror.

The stairway up to our apartment
The teeny old rickety elevator....we decided we will take the stairs. Kris has to duck and turn sideways to fit in the elevator and the top floor button where we are staying doesn't work. So we will be getting our excercise up the stairs!

We will definitely be making a visit to this chocolate shop! It is around the corner from us and I am excited to try it!

We took a walk across the street to the big supermarket to try our hand at shopping. It was crazy to not be able to read anything or talk to anyone. You feel so alone and so lost not being able to communicate. Usually Nico, would have taken us there, but because we were so delayed with the lost baggage, he had to meet another family so we had to do it on our own. It went ok, other than I tried taking a picture of the cute bakery area and the manager followed me and told me I couldn't take pictures and I needed to delete it. So I guess I learned that I will be asking for approval to take pictures now if workers are around.
We already bought the wrong water...we got the gas water in the little bottles but luckily the big one was not. We found a few english items we could read and then we found the yummy treats Lisa told us about....can't wait to try them.
I think we will be using this language map alot!
We found a restaurant across the street that said the name in english too so we thought that was promising. We were able to read an english menu and the food was good!

So we survived a few hours on our own as foreigners. Now we are heading to bed to try and get our bodies on this new clock. Tomorrow we have a day with no schedule so we hope to figure out how to get to some of the sites here and then we will be meeting up with another RR family here for dinner. We are looking forward to visiting with some english speaking company!

  1. Yes, the quietness of European travel areas is very eerie. I remember the quietness of the train station in Switzerland and the Munich airport. So strange.

  8. Hi!! We are cracking up...you found the ice cream treats :)! And you are in our second apartment...RUN when the elevator doors open (I bet you already figured that out!). We were there with Alina, and I was so scared she would get shut in the doors. Is the stairwell above your floor still covered with vines? But the apartment is nice, isn't it? Chris says there are some great restaurants nearby, and there's that awesome grocery store that Nico probably took you to :). Have an awesome time. Enjoy the city...it is AMAZING. This is really happening. You are on your journey of a lifetime! Love and hugs from the States!!
