Surviving...

"Surviving is important. Thriving is elegant."
— Maya Angelou
This little one has been surviving for 4 years

Now it is her time to thrive

And she will do it ever so elegantly

Life now has a little bit more meaning to this one little girl

She knows that we come and play with her each day
She waits eagerly by the door
THIS is the AMAZING reaction we get from her every time we enter the room for our visits....you can hear her squealing all the way across the room as she comes RUNNING

Kris thought the one lady was giving him "the eye" about the video camera so he turned it off a little quick.

She knows that we shower her with kisses

and she DEFINITELY knows that we bring her treats

As we took her back to her groupa and she once again got upset that we were leaving, and motioned for us to sit down on the couch, we realized that she doesn't know any different than these walls. This is her "home" and now she just wants us to be a part of it. She is fine to go back into her groupa, as long as we come with her.

She wants us to be a part of her life and this is the only life she knows.

She has no idea that in one week we will be breaking her out of these walls forever and she will see the world!

In our 28 short visits with her so far
She has blossomed
She has studied new things

She has laughed
She has smiled

She has made a new friend (this little boy is being adopted by a couple from Italy and since they speak some english we get to talk to eachother as we walk around the grounds each day)

She is walking better and better each day, because she is given opportunity
She is starting to sparkle like she was meant to do
She is exploring EVERYTHING around her

She can't contain her curiosity-as evidenced by her skinned knees as she tries to run faster than her body will go

She is not merely surviving anymore
She is starting to thrive
and she is doing it ever so elegantly

Little does she know

This is just the beginning!

She is going to do much more than survive in this world, she is going to thrive.

  11. I'm telling you Kecia, this is better than any reality show I could ever watch on TV. Reading your blog brings me so much joy everyday. It helps lift my spirits when I am looking at all the other little faces that are being left behind to know that you are "saving the one"? If only more people would step forward for the "one" there would be no one else left just surviving.
